Common winter cover crop. Growth continues through cold temperatures of late fall long after other cover crops have stopped their growth. Early spring growth helps hold the soil from possible erosion. Adds lots of organic matter from its vigorous roots which reach great depths. Till in at least two weeks before planting your next crop to prevent tying up soil nitrogen. Often grown with vetch. Rye/vetch mix available below. Seeding rate: 100 lbs/ acre, 3-4 lbs/1,000 sq ft.
